Public Notice- GRI Elephant Nursery Relocates to Lusaka National Park: A New Chapter for Elephant Conservation

Home 5 Events 5 Public Notice- GRI Elephant Nursery Relocates to Lusaka National Park: A New Chapter for Elephant Conservation

In an exciting development for wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists alike, the GRI (Game Rangers International) Elephant Nursery has officially moved from its original location at Lilayi Lodge to its new home in Lusaka National Park. This strategic relocation marks a significant step forward in the mission to rehabilitate and protect Zambia’s orphaned elephants.

A New Home for Young Giants

The GRI Elephant Nursery, renowned for its dedicated efforts in nurturing orphaned elephants, has been an essential component of the conservation landscape in Zambia. The move to Lusaka National Park, a 46,000-hectare expanse of protected wilderness, promises to enhance the nursery’s capabilities and provide a more suitable environment for the young elephants under its care.

Lusaka National Park, located just a short drive from Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka, offers a larger and more natural habitat for the elephants. This transition allows the nursery to better simulate the wild conditions the elephants will eventually face, thus facilitating a smoother reintroduction into their natural habitat.

What This Means for Visitors

For those interested in witnessing the incredible work being done at the GRI Elephant Nursery, Lilayi Lodge continues to offer day trips to Lusaka National Park. These tours provide a unique opportunity to observe the elephants in their new environment, learn about the nursery’s mission, and support conservation efforts firsthand.

Visitors can book a day trip to Lusaka National Park through Lilayi Lodge, email reservations@lilayi.com for bookings. For more information and to support the ongoing work of GRI, please visit Game Rangers International’s Wildlife Rescue page.

A Commitment to the Future

The relocation of the GRI Elephant Nursery to Lusaka National Park represents a commitment to enhancing the welfare of Zambia’s orphaned elephants and advancing conservation efforts in the region. As the nursery embarks on this new chapter, it continues to rely on the support and enthusiasm of conservationists, local communities, and visitors from around the world.

By fostering an environment that mirrors the elephants’ natural habitat and expanding its outreach, the GRI Elephant Nursery is poised to make an even greater impact in preserving Zambia’s wildlife heritage.
