Established in 1989, the lodge’s private game reserve spans a vast landscape that provides a safe haven for more than 500 plains animals. This thriving ecosystem is home to 25 different mammal species, including antelope, zebra, and giraffes, as well as over 300 species of birds. Within this protected area, Lilayi Lodge is able to help ensure the survival of diverse wildlife while offering guests a unique opportunity to experience Zambia’s natural beauty firsthand.

Beyond the game reserve, Lilayi Lodge actively supports five major conservation initiatives across Zambia. These include Game Rangers International, which focuses on anti-poaching efforts and elephant orphan care; Wildlife Crime Prevention, which combats illegal wildlife trafficking; Lusaka Animal Welfare Society, which provides veterinary care and rescue services for domestic and wild animals; African Animal Rescue Centre, which rehabilitates injured wildlife; and the Zambezi Working Donkey Project, which improves the welfare of working animals. By partnering with these organizations, Lilayi Lodge plays a crucial role in safeguarding Zambia’s wildlife and ensuring ethical conservation practices.

In addition to its conservation efforts, Lilayi Lodge supports Pack for a Purpose, a global initiative that encourages travelers to bring much-needed supplies for local communities. Through this program, guests can contribute essential items such as school supplies, medical equipment, and veterinary tools, directly benefiting social welfare programs in the region.
