A first in Zambia

The Lilayi Tree Safari offers a unique walking safari experience – a first in Zambia – dedicated to protecting and documenting the indigenous trees within the 650-hectare private game reserve of Lilayi Lodge. Each tree has been physically geo-tagged using the Gaia App, allowing visitors to explore them on the Lilayi Tree Safari Map linked below.

This extensive research project was initiated by Ian Miller, the Lilayi Reserve’s conservationist, and Nicholas Wightman, an active botanical consultant involved in numerous Environmental Impact Assessment projects across nearly every Zambian province. Since its launch in 2019, the project has required significant effort to ensure that species are geo-tagged and updated according to seasonal changes.

At Lilayi Lodge, we believe in promoting initiatives like this for education and conservation, helping to protect our natural heritage and safeguard the trees for future generations to come.

Available for in-house guests only.
